It was unseasonably cool on the morning of Saturday, April 5th . . . perfect for a little yard work. Even better for Friends of Scates Park to do some weeding, mulching, and raking of leaves to get the park ready for the Annual Picnic on Saturday, April 12th.
The City provided 17 bags of mulch and work gloves for the volunteers. Art Ordoqui organized the effort and coordinated with volunteers. The work was scheduled to take place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., but some folks worked at least an extra couple of hours!
We have Art Ordoqui to thank for Friends of Scates Park. Friends of Parks is an Adopt-A-Park Program through the San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department. Art found out about the program, researched it, presented a proposal to the THNA Board for creating Friends of Scates Park, and submitted an application to Parks & Rec. The program is an opportunity for Terrell Heights residents to be hands-on members of the team that keeps Scates Park in top condition. A program of this kind is increasingly important in times of scarce resources. The contribution of residents’ time and effort will ensure that Scates Park remains among the most beautiful in the City.
Miles of thanks to each and every volunteer who showed up and helped with the effort:
